With 2500 members, and growing , we currently have over 270 volunteers! Volunteering is a way for everyone to meet new people and become more involved in the Club. Volunteering also helps out the club, as many aspects of Club are managed by its members. All the income collected by the individual clubs within the Evergreen family and by the food services and the Special Events are invested back to the Club to pay for expenses and buy new equipment. Consider becoming a volunteer today! For further information, or to discuss volunteering with the Club please call 338-1000
Currently we are looking for people to help with our Food services in the Evergreen Lounge. The food services operate daily from Monday to Friday (in the summer) from 7 a.m. to 3 pm. In the winter, the lounge is open until 3:30 p.m. and until 1p.m. on Saturdays. We have the following volunteer opportunities currently available:
The muffin person's time commitment is a 2 1/2-hour shift, every morning for a one week period from Monday to Friday, every two months. The muffin person opens the Evergreen lounge kitchen. He/she makes coffee, muffins and morning menu items, fills order requests, takes payment and makes change. The muffin person organizes and stacks the dishes and prepares the kitchen for the kitchen host/hostesses.
The phoner for muffin people coordinates the schedule to fill each week with a muffin person/couple and communicates the date committments to the volunteers. It may require meeting with the muffin people once every 3 months.
The time commitment for a kitchen host/hostess is 3.5 hours. Our kitchen host/hostess volunteers choose shifts that work for them--either mornings or afternoons. They can choose the number of times in a month they would like to volunteer and this may range from one day per month to 3 or 4 times per month. Our hosts/hostesses prepare the menu items of the day--generally soup and sandwiches-- fill order requests, take payment and make change. They organize and stack the dishes and wash the dishes. As lunch is offered until 1 p.m., the afternoon hosts/hostesses generally serve beverages and goodies. The afternoon volunteers close and lock up the kitchen.
This position is identical to the hosts/hostesses above but volunteers on the "spare list" are those who prefer to come into the kitchen on an "as needs" basis rather than have a regular shift. They are contacted ahead of time by the kitchen phoner (see below) and come in to fill shifts where there is no regular host or hostesses, or when volunteers cannot meet their commitment.
Generally a kitchen schedule is printed for the month so that kitchen hosts and hostesses know their schedule in advance. There are some spots in the schedule where we do not have a regular volunteer and it is the task of the kitchen phoner to call on people from the "spare' list to fill the spots. The time commitment varies and the kitchen phoner works from their home. This is the ideal position for someone who wants to volunteer but cannot easily make it into the Filberg Centre.
